How to handle conflict with Co-workers

Conflict resolution is the most desired skill but patience & research are the requisites for the same. Employees shall be well aware of approaching each other and ways to address conflict with co-worker.

Steps:

Keep the issue to yourself:

If the issue is only between you and your colleague, the utmost important tip shall be to not discuss the same with anyone else unless it is discussed between you both. In case you need any suggestion or support, reach out to any family member, friend or your manager.

Do not postpone to address the issue:

Some internal problems between employees are initiated as minor issues and in case they are delayed that can lead to discomfort. Once the issue is confirmed make sure you discuss it with the co-worker as soon as possible. Addressing the issue can be the best solution and in case any sudden issue arises, its better to calm down and then discuss.

Best will be to analyse the problem beforehand and explain the situation along with your own point of view. Confrontation can be uncomfortable but this maximises the chances of resolving the issue.

Find things you can mutually agree on: 

Simply stating what you consider to  be wrong regarding your colleague’s approach may make them defensive and offensive which may lead to more misunderstanding instead of quick resolution. If any argument comes up, remember to assure your client that you are on their side and you too are passionate for the project and team to succeed.

Respect others opinion: 

Always remember that issue which is creating any hindrance may have a different side which currently you are not seeing. Put an effort to understand what your co worker has to say after an argument and ask him or her the motives behind the particular actions.

Conclude Amicably:

Try to reach such a solution which is equally good for both parties. Working together is a long term agreement if you agree or disagree. You shall cooperate with each other for healthy.

Think before involving Third Party:

Most interoffice conflicts can be resolved by involving Third Parties but there is always a right time and situation to involve any other person. Other team members can provide feedback on when and how to resolve the issue keeping in mind the good of the team. Still if any co worker harasses you, reach out to the management or HR department.
