What is MSME Udyam Registration?

MSME registration is also known as “Udyam Registration.” Entities that meet the MSME criteria can apply for MSME registration through the government’s Udyam portal. The MSME registration is online and can be done through the Udyam registration portal. MSMEs don’t need to obtain this registration, but it is advantageous to do so because it gives numerous benefits in terms of taxation, company setup, credit facilities, loans, and so on.

MSME Registration: Eligibility

MSME registration is open to all manufacturers, service industries, wholesalers, and retailers who meet the updated MSME classification criteria for annual sales and investment. Thus, an entity’s eligibility for MSME registration is determined by its yearly turnover and investment. The entities listed below are eligible for MSME registration:

  • Individuals, startups, business owners, and entrepreneurs.
  • Private and public limited corporations
  • Types of business entities include sole proprietorships, partnership firms, and limited liability partnerships (LLPs).
  • Examples of self-help groups include cooperative societies and trusts.

Documents required for MSME registration.

The MSME registration documentation includes the following:

  • Aadhaar card
  • PAN card

There are no fees for MSME registration, and no documentation is required. Because the Udyam Registration Portal is integrated with Income Tax and GSTIN systems, it will immediately retrieve PAN and GST-linked information on firm investment and turnover from government databases.

GST registration is optional for businesses that do not need it. Enterprises that are required by law to seek GST registration must provide their GSTIN to obtain MSME or Udyam registration.

How to Register MSME on the Udyam Registration Portal?

The full MSME registration process is conducted online. MSME online registration can be completed on the government website – udyamregistration.gov.in. There is no MSME registration fee. MSME registration can be done online in the following two categories in the portal:
