Marriage Procedure Of Haryana

The Haryana Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act, 2008 mandates that marriages in Haryana be registered. The legal documentation of a marriage’s registration is the marriage certificate. When someone has to demonstrate that they are lawfully married to someone, they will require a marriage certificate. In addition, you need the marriage certificate to change your maiden name, apply for a passport, etc.

How is marriage performed in Haryana?

  • Chawal Chahana: In order for the wedding to occur in an auspicious manner, rice is offered to the gods before the ceremony. Every Haryanvi wedding does this, but Jat weddings more so. This custom also represents wealth.
  • Seha: The groom is greeted in this custom at the wedding venue’s entrance. The bride’s family extends a cordial greeting to him.
  • Toran: After a cordial welcome, the groom arrives at the location, and a victory symbol is put on the door. After touching the mark with his sword, the groom leaves the area.
  • Varmala: Flowers are thrown at the groom as he sits at the mandap. At that point, the bride arrives, and they exchange garlands, or Varmala as it is commonly called. This ceremony represents the couple’s acceptance of one another. The bride’s mother then rids the groom of all the evil spirits by applying kajal on him. After that, she does aarti.
  • Hathlewa: In addition to giving the groom a coin and mehndi on his right hand, the head priest leads a special prayer session in which he praises Lord Ganesha. He then fastens the bride’s hand to the groom. This is to show that they have united as one.
  • Gajoa: The priest ties the bride’s saree and groom’s dhoti in this significant ceremony. The pair has formally joined through this sacred wedlock, which is a lifelong bond.
  • Saat Phere: The pair will make a vow to the Agni devata that they will remain together and have a happy life as they circle the sacred fire seven times. At this point, they are regarded as legally “married.”
  • KanyaDan: The bride’s father formally presents his daughter to the groom during this ceremony. After dousing the groom with holy water, he carries out this rite. Then he will ask his son-in-law to take good care of his daughter, showing her appropriate love, affection, and care. The groom made three commitments to all of these, stating that he would love and care for his wife unconditionally, acknowledging the importance of Dharma, Artha, and Kama.
