While taking legal advice for your court marriage, you may have a lot of questions in your mind which you wanted to ask but could not due to hesitation. One of them would have been what questions will the judge or the marriage registrar will ask us when we will go there?
These small questions holds a lot of value in any couple’s life. Hence, in this article we are going to clarify all your doubts & will try to answer all your questions.
Before moving further, we should know that if we want to perform our court marriage in Delhi, there are Sub- Divisional Magistrate (SDM) registers your marriage where as in Ghaziabad there are Marriage Registrar to register your marriage. Both these positions of SDM & Marriage Registrar are equivalent to that of Judge.
When you are sent to the judge’s chamber for registering your marriage, the questions asked to you & your partner are very general. The motive behind asking such questions is to have a final confirmation before making the marriage valid & official.
Questions asked before registering your marriage are :-
- What is your age ? (you & your partner’s)
- Your documents like Adhaar card, PAN Card, Birth proof etc.
- From where do you belong?
- If the girl looks terrified, the judge might ask her whether the boy has forcefully brought her here to marry or is this marriage happening with her consent?
- Whether the girl or boy’s mental state is normal or not.
- Why your parents are not accompanying you? In this case you can freely tell the judge that this is a love marriage & our parents does not support this or are against our marriage.
- Your educational background etc.
You may feel that the registrar may ask you questions that might make you uncomfortable like from what castes you belong? Why are you fair & your partner dark etc. But you don’t have to worry about all these things. A genuine registrar would never ask you such questions. They just ask general questions to cross check & confirm things & as a precautionary measure to check if there is something fishy or not.
But there are also some agents who may appoint a fake marriage registrar in a court like setting & tell you to register your marriage on a notary paper. By saying the judge is signing your notary papers, it is valid etc. but always be very very careful of such people. They will tell you that it will just take 2 hours to complete all the procedures but genuine court marriage procedures takes a lot longer than 2 hours. So be very cautious & don’t fall in such traps. Always remember, Marriages registered on notary paper are not valid. Such people’s main motive is to loot your money.
