As the vehicle owner, you can be held liable under the Motor Vehicles Act for allowing an unlicensed person to use your vehicle, regardless of whether you were deceived about their license status - the law places responsibility on owners to verify licenses before lending vehicles. Your best course of action is to immediately inform your insurance company and engage a lawyer, as this involves both a fatal accident and potential criminal liability for allowing unlicensed driving - however, the fact that your friend misrepresented his plans and license status could help mitigate your liability in a negotiated settlement.

Sir, since you lent your scooter to someone who didn’t have a valid license, and they lied about it, you might be partly liable. The driver’s reckless behavior also plays a role in the situation. The parents of your friend might be seeking compensation, so it’s crucial to talk to a lawyer to understand your legal standing and any possible defenses you have.
