How long can one file a case after an accident?

When I was 12 years old I met with an accident, where I lost the control of the bike and hit someone. I was not speeding I was going at the speed of 30 km/hr. He went unconscious. I didn't run at that time. I stayed their and people helped me. As he was a stranger to me I don't know whether he is ok or not right now. This incident happened before 10 years ago. Now I am 22 years old doing My CA planning to pursue IRS. But this trauma continues throughout my life. Whether I will punished for this now? If the victim files a case? If yes based on minor law or what law?

Since you were a minor (12 years old) at the time of the accident, you would have been dealt with under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000/2015, which focuses on rehabilitation rather than punishment. The limitation period for filing civil cases in India is generally 3 years, and for criminal cases involving accidents it's typically 3-5 years, so legal action is unlikely after 10 years. However, if the accident resulted in death (which seems unlikely given the circumstances you described), there may be different considerations - but in any case, your minor status at the time would be the primary legal factor.

It's highly unlikely you will be punished now, 10 years after the incident. In India, for a criminal case to be initiated, a complaint needs to be filed within a specific timeframe. Contact us on helpline number for further enquiry.
