How can I resolve the surname discrepancy for my OBC certificate?

I am appearing for the UPSC examination, but I have a concern regarding my documents. All my documents (10th, 12th, graduation marksheets, Aadhar card, PAN card, and voter ID) show my father's name without a surname (for example, Mr. Suresh). However, my father's documents and my OBC certificate both show his full name with the surname (Mr. Suresh Kumar). To clarify, my father’s documents and my OBC certificate mention his name as Mr. Suresh Kumar, while my other documents list it as Mr. Suresh. I am worried that this discrepancy might lead to my OBC certificate being canceled, which could result in the cancellation of my candidature during document verification. As a solution, I am considering getting my father's name changed and making an affidavit to clarify the surname mistake on the OBC certificate. I would like to know if there is any other way to avoid facing any issues in the future or if this solution will be sufficient. Please help.

Sir, the affidavit explaining the discrepancy in your father’s name (without surname in your documents and with surname in the OBC certificate and other official documents) should be sufficient to clarify the situation. You must ensure that all official documents (OBC certificate, PAN, Aadhar, voter ID) should support the claim and submit the affidavit during UPSC document verification. It is advised to consult an expert lawyer who will assist you with the best course of action. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
