Who are the legal heirs of ancestral property?

Hi Team, We have an ancestor property and it was purchased by my grandfathers grandmother 170+ years back. My grandfather took care of this and after my grandfather my father took care, now I am taking care of it. The document is still in grandfathers grandmothers name. We have other legal hires that is the reason document was not updated. Now the govt official are asking to get it updated, how do we deal with this?

In this case, to update the ownership of the ancestral property, you will need to assemble all relevant documents. It could include proof of the original purchase deed and the possession of your grandfather and father. Then, see a local lawyer who specializes in property law to understand how the title can be transferred. If there are multiple legal heirs, you will have to file a petition for succession or partition. The attorney can draft required applications and plead before government authorities on your behalf. Moreover, as you may obtain affidavits from all other legal heirs where they agree to transfer, this may also help ease the process of updating.
