Why was my daughter’s caste certificate denied despite valid documents?
I am a permanent resident of Karnataka and have been working in Kerala for 13 years. I applied for my daughter’s Scheduled Caste certificate, but it was denied. They said that the caste certificate will be issued in the place of my current residence. I showed them the guidelines of the Supreme Court in the 'Action Committee on issuing caste certificates,' which states that the certificate should be issued at the place where the parents are permanent residents. Unfortunately, they did not even consider this order. All my documents, including my Aadhar card, voter ID, driving license, and my daughter’s Aadhar card, have my Karnataka address. My own caste certificate also mentions my address in Karnataka. I don’t have a ration card for my Karnataka address. Please guide me if there is any other law or rule that governs their refusal to issue my daughter’s caste certificate.

Caste certificates should be issued where the parents are permanent residents. Since you live in Karnataka and have the documents, you can file a complaint with higher authorities in Karnataka or Kerala. If refused, a lawyer can help file a petition in court for the certificate. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
