What can I do if movers delay and overcharge delivery?
I availed the services of a movers and packers company to transport my excess baggage from Chennai to Bhubaneswar, Odisha. I was charged for 23 kgs, even though my bag weighed only 17 kgs. I paid the full amount and was assured that the delivery would be completed within 3 days. However, it has now been 7 days, and I have still not received my baggage. Upon tracking with their courier partner, Delhivery, I was informed that an additional payment is required, failing which my baggage will not be delivered. When I contacted the movers and packers company, they initially answered my calls. However, after I raised the issue regarding the delay and the discrepancy with the courier service, they disconnected the call and have since stopped responding. I have all the bills and screenshots of the online payment. Please advise on how to proceed with this matter.

The first step you can take is contact the national consumer helpline to report your grievance. It usually takes 1 week to 1 month. Kindly wait for the period and if the same is not found to your satisfaction, then a complaint can be filed at the district consumer forum with the help of an advocate. Note that the above mentioned procedure is not mandatory but rather a suggestion and in cases where you want immediate action by escalating the issue then choosing litigation as the first option will be more in your interest.

You can send a legal notice to both the movers and Delhivery for delay and extra charges. If they did not respond then you can file a complaint under Consumer Court for deficiency in service. It is advised to consult an expert lawyer who will assist you with the best course of action. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
