What are alternatives if I cannot afford a lawyer’s help?

By paying Rs. 1000, can I consult a lawyer or get their help at the police station to file a complaint? This matter is affecting my studies and career. I am a first-year LLB student in a 3-year course. Please help me out with this. Also, if I am not financially strong enough to hire a lawyer for filing a complaint at the police station or in court, what are my other options?

If you cannot afford a lawyer, you can seek free legal aid from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) or approach NGOs that offer legal help. Many lawyers provide initial consultations for a small fee, and some may assist at the police station for Rs. 1000, depending on the case. You can also file a police complaint yourself, as it does not require a lawyer. If needed, you may contact legal aid clinics run by law colleges for guidance.

If you are not capable of affording a lawyer, you can apply either to the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) or your State Legal Services Authority for free legal aid, and the authority will appoint a lawyer for your case.

Sir, if you cannot afford a lawyer, you can access free legal aid through the Legal Services Authority in your area. Additionally, you can file a complaint directly at the police station without a lawyer. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
