Can I marry in Nepal and get marriage certificate in India?
I want to marry a nepali girl and I am a NRI living in Australia. I want to know if we marry in Nepal, and get marriage certificate in India, would that work or we have to get married in India to get marriage certificate in India. And what is the process and do we need witness from girl's family too? Or any witness would be fine?
You can marry a Nepali girl in Nepal, and that marriage will be legally recognized in India. For getting a marriage certificate in India, you have to get registered under the Special Marriage Act or the relevant local laws after your marriage in Nepal. You don't need to get married in India for this purpose. You would, however, require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Embassy in Nepal. Witnesses are also required. One of the witnesses can come from the girl's family, but any competent witness will do. Make sure you have all the required documents for registration
Sir, if both the partner has legal age to get married you can marry in Nepal, and the marriage will be recognized in India. There's no need to marry again in India. The Nepalese marriage certificate can be used to register your marriage in India. Any witnesses can be used. It is advised to consult an expert lawyer who will assist you with the smooth registration. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
