What happens if an 18-year-old girl leaves her family?

If a girl runs away from her house, goes to the police, and complains about her family, stating that she doesn't want to stay with them, what will happen if the girl is 18 and just turned 18 three days ago?

If an 18-year-old girl runs away from home and tells the police that she does not want to live with her family, then the police will consider her a major under Indian law and allow her to decide on her own. The police may investigate for her safety and well-being but cannot compel her to go back home. It would then be important for her to communicate clearly about why she left, thereby allowing the police to take all necessary documentation of her complaints and offer her protection accordingly.

If an 18-year-old girl runs away from home and comes to the police station stating that she does not want to stay with her family, then the police will take her complaint seriously because she is considered an adult under Indian law, and legally she has a right to say where she wants to live. The police can afford her protection and also support in finding a safe shelter. Nonetheless, they would also assess her case to find out whether she is safe and in good health and, should the need arise, bring in social services.

Sir, in India, the age of majority is 18 years and is considered legally an adult and has the right to make their own decisions, including where they choose to live. Therefore, the girl has the legal right to leave her family and choose to live independently. The police will typically support her decision if she is not under duress or facing any form of harm.
