Why are there two different dates on the marriage affidavit?

We got married via SMA in Kollam, Kerala. The certificate was issued to us on 13th December 2024, but there are two stamps on the affidavit/stamp paper dated 7th and 11th December, respectively. I would like to understand what these two dates represent. I can send the image of the certificate via email if needed.

Under the Special Marriage Act in India, the 7th December stamp likely represents the date when you filed the initial notice/application (which requires a mandatory 30-day notice period), and the 11th December stamp probably indicates when your supporting affidavits were submitted or verified.

The two dates on the affidavit/stamp paper likely represent different stages of the documentation process. The 7th December date could indicate the purchase or notarization of the stamp paper, while the 11th December date may correspond to the execution or attestation of the affidavit before the marriage officer. These dates do not affect the legal validity of your Special Marriage Act (SMA) certificate, as the official registration date remains 13th December 2024.

Sir, in this case, you should contact your marriage registrar for clarification regarding the signatures. It is advisable to consult an expert lawyer who can guide you and assist in determining the best course of action based on the specifics of your situation.
