What can I do if my salary was withheld illegally?
Management has withheld a portion of my salary for December 2024 and 50% of the salary for January and February and what legal action can I take to recover the withheld amount?

If your salary is withheld illegally, you should first send a written complaint to your employer asking for the pending amount. If they do not respond, you can file a complaint with the Labour Commissioner or approach the labour court under the Payment of Wages Act, 1936. You can also approach a lawyer to send a legal notice. If needed, you may file a civil suit to recover the withheld salary.

Your employer cannot withhold salary without a valid reason. Under the Payment of Wages Act, you are entitled to your full salary. First, contact HR for clarification. If unresolved, send a formal complaint. If needed, you can approach the Labour Commissioner or file a case in Labour Court to recover your withheld salary.
