Legal steps if groom’s family harasses sister after marriage?

My sister’s marriage was performed in Haryana, where a debt of 5-6 lakh was incurred. At that time, the groom’s family claimed the groom was not responsible. Now, the groom is smoking and making false allegations against my sister. His mother-in-law is also preventing my sister from returning to her home. What legal steps can be taken in this situation?

If your sister is being harassed or falsely accused, she can file a complaint under the Domestic Violence Act or other relevant sections of the IPC. Legal action can be taken against the groom and his family. Consult a lawyer for guidance on filing the case. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
