What can I do if the car's fitness renewal is pending?

I have sold a second hand car that i used, 4years back. The buyer then told me that he will change the ownership soon, but didn't do it and went on selling it to others. It changed hands three to four times in between. After so many days, I got hold of the current owner and asked for changing the ownership. And now it needs to renew the fitness of the vehicle also. Now he is saying that the person who sold him the car, took money for fitness renewal (which is 15000), but didn't do it. And he has no more money to do it. And you can't change ownership until fitness renewal is done. What to do in such case from my end provided I don't know who sold him the car.

Sir, since you sold the car, your responsibility ends once the sale is done. However, the new owner cannot transfer ownership without the fitness renewal. You can check with the RTO to find the previous owner who took money for the renewal. If they would not help, you can send a legal notice or file a complaint. If necessary, the current owner may have to renew the fitness themselves. It is a good idea to consult a lawyer for help. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
