What legal action can be taken against threats?

Namaste Sir, I'm from Sikar district of Rajasthan. I am receiving continuous threats from my girlfriend's father regarding our relationship. We haven't given them any reason to behave this way. We have been in a relationship since our college days, and we already told her mother about us. At that time, they didn’t say anything. We belong to the same religion and caste, and we are both currently pursuing our careers. However, they don't want to listen to our side of the story. We trusted them, but instead of talking to my family, they are threatening me and my family. What should I do?

If your girlfriend’s father is threatening you, keep proof like call recordings or messages. If the threats continue, file a police complaint under IPC Sections 503 and 506. You can also ask the court for protection if needed. Try talking to elders or trusted people to resolve the issue. If things get worse, consult a lawyer for legal help. Stay safe!

If you are receiving threats, you should file a complaint with the local police for criminal intimidation. If the threats cause mental harassment, you can seek help from the District Legal Services Authority or can file a Civil Suit. You may also consider sending a legal notice through a lawyer to stop further threats. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
