Why did they file dowry case after wedding delay?

Sir, my marriage was scheduled for 20th April and wedding invitations were already sent to family and relatives. However, I have my RRB JE exam on 22nd April 2025, and I did not get married on the planned date. Due to this, the bride’s side filed a dowry complaint at the police station and are demanding ₹4.5 lakh in cash and ₹2.5 lakh worth of furniture. The only mistake my father made was accepting furniture worth around ₹90,000. We are from a middle-class family, and now they are threatening to take legal action. Please help.

Since they filed a false dowry case after the marriage was cancelled, you should immediately apply for anticipatory bail. Keep proof of your exam and the wedding not happening. You can also file a police complaint for blackmail. If no FIR is filed yet, inform the police in writing and seek protection. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
