Employee absconded with company IP
Remote employee absconded with sensitive company assets and sensitive IP, and demanding money to return it. Any advice on next steps and possible options would be appreciated.
Contact the absconder by phone and email. If you do not receive a reply, please report it to the employee's last known address in an official (registered or courier) letter.
Please quote the relevant section of the Employee Handbook and ask why you are not coming to work.
Ask your employees to contact you immediately. If there is no response within the specified time, and send a warning letter clearly stating that the dismissal will be taken if the worker does not report to the workplace.
If he does not respond within 15 days of the warning, you can take legal action by sending a court warning and terminating the abstainer's employment.
