If your ex-hostel has not returned your ₹9,000 security deposit, review any hostel agreement or receipt you received when you paid the security deposit. Draft a formal letter or email requesting the return of your security deposit. Include details such as the amount, date of payment, and a deadline for repayment. Send this via registered post or email to create a record of your request. Keep records of all communications, including your initial agreement, payment receipt, and any messages or emails exchanged with the hostel management. If you still do not receive your money back, consider consulting a lawyer to explore legal options. You can file a complaint in the consumer court for the return of the deposit, as this falls under consumer rights.

Under Section 318 of the BNS you can sue them for fraud if they deceived you to get the money. Additionally, you can file a case under Section 316 of BNS for criminal breach of trust. If the court finds the person guilty, they could face imprisonment and be ordered to repay the money.
