Issue with Surety

Hello, My father recently expired and I got to know that there was a chit on which he had given surety sign. The person who too the chit fund is unknown to us. Now that person has stopped paying the EMIs and court has given notice to my fathers employer to cut from his salary. As my father is govt employee the court further sent notice to take amount from death benefits. Is there a way we can get out of this as we don't that person at all and my father didn't say about this anytime.
