Question regarding money fraud case

I registered a fraud complaint at local Police station about a month back. I registered it through a paper copy and I got stamp and signature on it. After couple of days, I got a call from Police station. Both parties were called and the station-in-charge listened to both sides of story. He asked the fraudsters to submit his statement and said to me that I would get updates after a week. Since then I am following up on phone with a junior officer (who is a head constable, I guess) and he keeps saying that investigation is going on the submitted papers by the fraudster and he'll call me once it's done. 1. Should I meet station-in-charge and demand explanation? Isn't there any time boundary to give updates to complainant? 2. I have no complaint number. Can I demand for one? Is that optional? 3. If I do not get any updates in next 1 month, would you advise to register a complaint against this delay at commissioner's office?
