Can I legally challenge my husband's refusal and invalid marriage claim?

I am a 24-year-old Hindu woman, and my husband is 32. After dating for eight months, we married in a temple, performing traditional rituals. He came to my village, where my father gave him money and a wedding ring. Following the marriage, he took me to his flat, not his parents' house, as he kept our marriage a secret. This was embarrassing, as I had involved everyone. While staying at his flat, I insisted that he inform his parents. He refused, even taking my phone to prevent me from contacting them. After hours of convincing, he finally told them, but they insulted me. Later, he demanded that my father finance a formal wedding, which we couldn’t afford. After learning about my past relationship, he cut off all contact, refused to meet me, and drafted a "mutual agreement" claiming our marriage was invalid. Now, it has been two months without support, and my family and I face constant judgment and embarrassment due to this situation. What can I do?

It is advisable to send him a legal notice claiming rights under the Hindu Marriage Act. The notice helps you communicate formally against his position on the validity of your marriage and demanding maintenance and support. If he continues to deny or refuses to support, you can lodge complaints with the appropriate authorities or make a petition of maintenance in family court. A family lawyer will help you know the right step to take under your distinct circumstances.

You can give complaint in the nearest police station with the evidence of your marriage. If not, send the notice to your husband for restitution of conjugal rights along with proving your marriage by providing the wedding photos and the messages that was passed between you both regarding. You can call for the witness who was present in your marriage to prove the context.
