Hello mam,

Section 5 of the Shariah Law of 1937 affects Muslim women seeking divorce. Section 5 was later deleted and replaced by the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act 1939. Muslim women can apply for divorce in court. A woman may file for divorce if:

Husband's whereabouts have not been known for four years
Husband has failed to pay child support for two years
Husband has been sentenced to prison case
7 years or more Husband has failed to perform his marital duties for 3 years
Husband is impotent at marriage and remains impotent

Venereal disease
Even if there is no physical violence
if the wife is forced by her father or guardian to lead an immoral life
from exercising her legal right to e their religion religious beliefs or their religious practices
if they have more than one wife or if they do not treat their wives equally according to the Quran. or carry out any other reason recognized as valid for the dissolution of a marriage under Islamic law.
