Does I need to be physically present during the application of court marriage in India?

I am migrating to Canada in few months and I would like to get married to my boyfriend under Special Marriage Act. My query is while submitting the application should I be here or is it OK if I am present on the marriage registration date, as I will be in Canada.

You need to be physically present in India to complete the marriage registration process under the Special Marriage Act. Both parties must be present before the Marriage Officer and three witnesses to sign the declaration and complete the ceremony.
