Hindu vs special marriage act

My boyfriend said he was married traditional sikh wedding in india before but haven't registered his marriage under special marriage act.. his partner was sikh he is Christian.. is this marriage legal??

If one of the partner is sikh and  other is christian the marriage to be registered under special marriage act if not registered the it is not valid.
