How to file a divorce petition?

I need legal advice regarding filing for divorce from my ex-husband. We got married in Feb 2023, lived together only 5 months. The marriage has not been consummated, and I’ve faced domestic violence (strangulation, have pictures and messages) but he's threatened verbally that he will falsely claim that I also strangled him. He’s also refusing divorce, marriage counseling, or compromise. I would like to proceed with minimal or no contact. Can you guide me on the next steps and any legal protections available? What is the fastest and safest way?

Without the other's consent, you can apply for divorce, typically on the basis of certain legal reasons including cruelty, adultery, and others. A petition outlining the reasons for divorce, along with any supporting documentation, will be drafted by your attorney. The First and Second Motion hearings are scheduled by the court, often separated by a 6-month waiting time. The court issues the divorce decree following the second hearing.
