Respected Maam, bipolar disorder has not been explicitly mentioned in the law as a ground of divorce however if bipolar disorder leads to behavior that constitutes cruelty or makes it impossible for the spouses to live together, it could potentially be used as evidence in a divorce case. Additionally if you had this disorder before your marriage and such disorder was willfully disclosed by you from your husband, in such case consent for the marriage was obtained by fraud or misrepresentation, the marriage may be annulled. Law does not specifically consider bipolar disorder to be a ground for annulment of a Christian marriage. However, annulment can be granted on the grounds of fraud, and it could be argued that hiding a mental illness from your spouse could constitute fraud. Contact us for further enquiry.
