Respected Sir/Maam, For an NRI marriage under the Special Marriage Act in India, both parties have to provide a notice of intent at the local registrar's office, followed by a 30-day objection period. They have to submit affidavits, documents, in front of witnesses. The ceremony can be held at the registrar's office, and after registration, a marriage certificate is issued. For international recognition, the certificate should be attested by the Indian Embassy or Consulate where the NRI resides. Please feel free to contact our law firm at your earliest convenience. NRI spouse must first obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their home country. Once the NOC is obtained, the couple can apply for a marriage license from the Marriage Officer. Contact us on our helpline number to know more about process of marriage registration under SMA 1954.
