What is the process for an Indian to marry a foreigner?
Marriages of an Indian citizen with a foreign national would now, under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, follow the process. First, the parties will have to give notice of their Intended Marriage before the Marriage Registrar in whose jurisdiction either party to the marriage has been residing for at least thirty days prior to such notice. Valid passports, visa for the foreign national, birth certificates in case of single status proving, affidavits of single status, and a No Objection Certificate from the embassy of the foreign national are required. Thereafter, after giving a 30 days notice, the marriage can be solemnized in the presence of witnesses and registered officially.
