Can we obtain a civil marriage certificate without traveling to India?
My family members need a civil marriage certificate but they have a Church one as they were married before the year 2000. They need it for PR application and want to avoid traveling to India for this document. Is there any way they can obtain this document without going to India? They were married in Mangalore in a church and live in the West. I also do not have an Indian phone number so I put a filler phone number. What can I do?
The couple can authorize a trusted person in India, who is a relative or legal representative, by executing the power of attorney. It can be notarized locally as per the international standards. The POA holder can submit the application for marriage registration or collect the necessary documentation from the church and registrar’s office on their behalf. It can be registered under the Section 8 of the Special Marriage Act 1954. Use email ID as the primary mode of communication in the application.
Sir, you will need to visit India for the registration, and the registration will be valid from the date of its completion; it cannot be backdated. There is no alternative way to obtain the certificate without coming to India. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
