Foreigners that overstayed in India

Hello, My name is Katie Doyle, I am a Canadian Citizen staying in India. I came 03/03/2020 on a Tourist Visa, I was unable to return to Canada due to Covid-19. I extended my Visa up until September of 2021. At this time I did not get a response from the FRRO for several months. When I did recieve a response I was given an Exit Visa. I attempted to contact the office in Delhi as well as make an appeal with the FRRO however I did not recieve an reply. I am now preparing to return to Canada, so I contacted the FRRO for an Exit Visa, after meeting with them at their office I was under the impression it would be granted without a fine. However they sent me a fine of $50000 inr. I would like to know if there is anyway I would be able reduce the fine or make an appeal with the help of your law firm. Thank you for your time, Katie Doyle

Hello mam,

As reading above your query there are certain penalties accordingly by overstaying  in Indian,

The fine by the Indian board depending on the duration of the overstay are as follows:

(1) overstay for less than 90 days :- USD 300

(2) overstay for less than 91-2 years :- USD 400

(3) overstay for 2 years or more :- USD 500

As mam you  have stayed approx more than 2 years therefore, you have to pay 500 USD as fine that is approxly 40000 Indian Rupee.
