How to change father’s name on US citizenship documents?
I am 16 years old. I have US citizenship. I am currently residing in India. How can I change my biological father name with step father name in US citizenship?
You have to obtain an order from the court requesting for the change of name of step father to the biological father in US by providing reason and appear for hearing. Required documentation has to be provided such as birth certificate and the proof of relationship with step father.
A foreign-born person, if they want to change their biological father's name to that of a stepfather on any U.S. citizenship documents, must first obtain an order from a court changing their name lawfully in the United States. Generally, you will need to file a petition in an appropriate court, give a reason for a name change, and possibly appear before a hearing. With this type of petition, you would be required to annex copies demonstrating your present name, birth certificate, and proof that your stepfather has a relation with you. After getting the court order, you would then submit a copy of it to USCIS with Form N-600 if you seek a Certificate of Citizenship or modify your name for any other documents applicable like your passport.
Ma’am, Indian law will not be applicable in your matter as you are a US citizen, you have to apply in US for changing the status of your father. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
