What is the procedure for registration of marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954?
My husband visa expired and we already applied before expire but they want register marriage under special special marriage act.
The marriage has to be registered under Special Marriage Act 1954. Under Section 5, the couple has to submit written Notice of Intended Marriage to district sub register office and reside for 30 days minimum before giving the notice. Objections have to be allowed for period of 30 days by publishing publicly under Section 6 and 7 of the Act. Registration of marriage has to be done under Section 13 of the Act, when no objection by providing required documents such as passport size photos, proof of address, passport and visa. Receive the marriage certificate and provide as a proof to immigration authorities.
