Is it legal for family to install cameras without consent?
I want to know if it is legal to install cameras in the kitchen and drawing room of the house. My father-in-law and brother-in-law have installed cameras without my consent and are watching me. I feel very uncomfortable, and I do not have access to those cameras. We live in a parda system, which I know is not illegal, but them watching me is making me uncomfortable.
It may infringe privacy rights if a surveillance camera were placed in your private spaces, like the kitchen and the drawing room, in India. As there is no direct law against family members monitoring private spaces, the issue might be raised about lack of consent and is, thus, illegal or unethical. In this regard the Supreme Court has held the right of privacy as a matter of basic rights, by which any surveillance without consent can be said to be an intrusion. You can discuss it with your father-in-law or brother-in-law and thus try to explain your resentment or get proper legal advise to look into possible options for claiming your right over privacy breach.
Installing surveillance cameras without consent in shared living spaces, especially in private areas like kitchens and drawing rooms, potentially violates personal privacy rights and can be considered harassment under Indian law. Such actions may constitute a violation of fundamental rights Feel free to contact us or ask more queries
