IPC Section 67 - Imprisonment For Non-Payment Of Fine

IPC Section 67 states that - 

  1. It is applicable only for the offences which are punishable with the fine only.
  2. The description of the imprisonment imposed by the court will be simple.
  3. The term of the imprisonment will be such that - 
  • If the fine is less than or equal to fifty rupees (Fine <= 50 Rupees) then the term of imprisonment shall not exceed 2 months ( Imprisonment <= 2 months ).
  • If the fine is less than or equal to hundred rupees but greater than 50 rupees (50 < Fine <= 100) then, the term of imprisonment shall not exceed 4 months (Imprisonment <= 4 months).
  • If the fine is greater than 100 rupees (Fine > 100 rupees) then, the term of imprisonment shall not exceed 6 months (Imprisonment < 6 months).
