Description

The National Human Rights Commission is an example of India's interest in the protection and development of human rights. It came in October 1993. Its ordinance is incorporated in the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993, as amended by the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006. The constitution of the National Human Rights Commission has been compared with the principles of Paris. The National Human Rights Commission, like most human rights organizations in the system, has a piece of recommendatory evidence in accordance with the Human Rights Protection Act established by Parliament.

The Role Of Commission Includes :

i) To make suggestions for practical implementation of international conferences/contracts,

ii)  Launching an investigation and design workshops and analysis program on human rights concerns, 

iii)  Raise awareness of human rights and 

iv)  Support the struggles of non-governmental associations towards the improvement of human rights.

v)  Assessment of protection provided under the Constitution or any law.

 

More Details On Human Rights Commission:

  • It also coordinates camp meetings for the disposal of pending cases and openly discusses the malpractices. 
  • It deals with the allegations of malpractices against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in different parts of the country to redress their intricacies.
  • State-wise, various districts have also been encouraged to assess the enforcement of various measures related to the implementation of human rights and welfare schemes.
  • It encourages the recommendations for the assigned governments to guarantee good governance.
  • Among others, the problems of bonded and child labor, reform of atonement, right to health, right to food, mental health care. 
  • The Commission has distributed more than 80 books and magazines since the publication of newspapers in Hindi and English from time to time.
  • Several organizations, human rights defenders' NGOs, and the media have also actively promoted and improved the work of the NHRC towards the promotion and protection of human rights.
