IPC Section 54 - Commutation Of Sentence Of Death

IPC Section 54 states that - the appropriate government ( explained in IPC Section 55A ) has the power to commute or alter the punishment of sentence to death passed against the offender.

• The appropriate government can alter the order of "sentence of death" by the supreme court to "sentence of life imprisonment".
